The discography of Against Me!, a Gainesville, Florida-based punk rock band, consists of five studio albums, four EPs, one live album, two DVDs, twelve singles, four demos, and ten music videos.
Against Me! was formed in 1997 by singer/guitarist Tom Gabel as a solo act, occasionally performing with backing drummers and bassists. He recorded a single cassette demo himself that year titled Against Me! With the addition of drummer Kevin Mahon a second demo titled Vivida Vis! was released in limited numbers the following year by local label Misanthrope Records. The band's first EP, the eponymously-titled Against Me!, was released in 2000 by Crasshole Records, another local label. Their first widely-distributed release was the EP Crime as Forgiven by Against Me!, released in 2001 by Plan-It-X Records and Gabel's own Sabot Productions. A third EP, also eponymously-titled, was released later that year and was an acoustic recording consisting of Gabel and bassist Dustin Fridkin. Mahon then left the band and was replaced by Warren Oakes, and second guitarist James Bowman was added.
The band's first album, Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose, was released in March 2002 by No Idea Records. Fridkin then left the band and was replaced by Andrew Seward, cementing a lineup (Gabel, Oakes, Bowman, and Seward) that would remain until 2009. This lineup released the single "The Disco Before the Breakdown" in July 2002. In 2003 Against Me! signed to Fat Wreck Chords and released their second album, Against Me! as the Eternal Cowboy, supported by singles for the songs "Cavalier Eternal" and "Sink, Florida, Sink". The DVD We're Never Going Home followed, documenting their Spring 2004 U.S. tour. Their second album for Fat Wreck Chords was 2005's Searching for a Former Clarity, spawning singles for "Don't Lose Touch" and "From Her Lips to God's Ears (The Energizer)", which also became the band's first music videos. The live album Americans Abroad!!! Against Me!!! Live in London!!! followed in 2006.
Against Me! next made the switch to a major label, signing to Sire Records for the 2007 album New Wave, produced by Butch Vig. Debuting at number #57 on the Billboard 200, it was a breakthrough success for the band and featured their first charting single, "Thrash Unreal", which reached #11 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. Other singles from New Wave included "White People for Peace", "Stop!", and "New Wave". A second DVD, titled Live at the Key Club, was released in late 2007. in 2008 Sire released New Wave B-Sides, a download-only EP.
Oakes left the band in June 2009 and was replaced by Hot Water Music drummer George Rebelo. Fat Wreck Chords then released The Original Cowboy, a recording of demos for Against Me! as the Eternal Cowboy. Against Me!'s fifth studio album, White Crosses, was released June 8, 2010 and became the highest-charting release of their career, reaching #34 on the Billboard 200. It was supported by singles for "I Was a Teenage Anarchist" and "High Pressure Low", as well as a UK-exclusive release for the album's title track, "White Crosses".
In May 2011 the band released Total Clarity, a collection of demo tracks for their third studio album Searching for a Former Clarity. This was followed by the "Russian Spies" / "Occult Enemies" single. In June 2011 the band launched their own label, Total Treble Music; The label's first release will be a deluxe reissue of White Crosses, with a second disc of alternate versions and unreleased songs titled Black Crosses.[1]
